Deputies: Two hospitalized after fight involving alcohol, pellet gun, machete, axe

CITY OF SHASTA LAKE, Calif. - A stepfather and stepson were taken to the hospital Saturday afternoon, after a fight deputies say involved alcohol, a pellet gun, a machete, and an axe.

It happened in the 3800 block of Pancake Hill Drive.

According to investigators, Michael Guthrie and Shawn Moran, both of whom had been drinking, got into a fight over Guthrie wanting Moran to move out of the house.

Deputies say Moran fired a pellet gun at Guthrie, then Guthrie grabbed a machete and broke out a window, before grabbing a metal axe and going after Moran.

A struggle ensued, and both Moran and Guthrie wound up with deep cuts to their left arms, along with other minor cuts.

Both were taken to the hospital, and deputies will seek charges against both for assault with a deadly weapon.
