REDDING, Calif. - Enterprise High School football coach Russell McWilliams said Tyler Hafner doesn't have much to say Monday through Thursday.
The senior makes up for it by making serious noise on the football field on Friday nights.
"He's a young man of action. He's all action," McWilliams said. "It's his action out here that keeps it going."
After catching three passes on offense, intercepting two and taking part in nine tackles on defense in a 21-10 win over visiting Lassen, Hafner was named Xtra Point's Mega Star Financial Player of the Week for September 8, 2017.
"It's really fun to be out here and be a Hornet," Hafner said upon receiving the award. "There's so many great people that graduated ahead of me. Izzy Matthews, Justin Abney, Brock Barr. It just feels great."
Hafner's 74 yard interception return was his second in as many weeks. Although he has played quarterback (he threw three touchdowns as an injury replacement in week two), and is an often keyed upon wide receiver, defense is where he shines.
"He's been carrying our defense for two years," McWilliams said. "Two pick sixes in two weeks is pretty big. He just blows our minds every week."
Hafner and the Hornets put their 3-0 record on the line Friday night in their Homecoming game at home against the Woodland Wolves.
