REDDING, Calif. - Firefighters were able to save a home after a fire in a trash bin spread to an attached garage.
Crews were dispatched to 1562 Oakdale Lane. at 10:55 a.m.
When they arrived, they found the side of a garage engulfed in flames.
The fire spread to the attic space of the garage and burned some of the contents inside, but responding crews were able to prevent it from doing any damage to the home.
Fire investigator Patrick O'Connor said the fire was caused by improperly discarded smoking material that ignited a plastic trash bin next to the garage.
Conditions at the time, specifically wind, helped the fire spread to the structure.
Damage is estimated at about $8,000.
A total of 19 personnel on six engines battled the fire.
