Fundraiser set to help save two historic theaters

BURNEY, Calif. - An effort is underway to save the movie theaters in Burney and Fall River Mills in Shasta County.

The two theaters project their movies using film but by the end of this year everything will be digital and film will no longer be available.

Theater owner Donna Sylvester said it is about $90,000 to upgrade the equipment to digital – a hefty sum for the small theaters.

A fundraiser to help save the theaters is being held Saturday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m..

It will be at the Buckhorn Saloon in McArthur and will feature Fall River Brewing Company beers.

It costs $20, which gets you four tastings.

There will also be music and BBQ food.

The Burney theater has been there since 1940 and the Fall River Mills location has been there since 1941.
