One arrested for drunk boating, running aground on Shasta Lake

Drunk driver runs aground on Shasta Lake

SHASTA LAKE, Calif. - One person was arrested for drunk boating after they ran aground on Shasta Lake, according to the Shasta County Sheriff's Office. 

Officials said that deputies with the Boating Safety Unit watched as a boat, traveling at least 25 mph, in the dark in the area of Bridge Bay Marina and Beaver Island. They reported that the boat was near exposed island that connects Bridge Bay Resort to Beaver Island. 

While deputies watched, the boat ran aground on the Westside of the island. 

Deputies spoke with the boat operator, Lorie Garey, who admitted to operating the vehicle while consuming alcohol. 

Garey was arrested for boating under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and booked into the Shasta County jail.
