REDDING, Calif. - Redding now has a lasting tribute to the late country music great Merle Haggard.
The State Senate approved a resolution sponsored by Northstate Senator Ted Gaines, designating the Interstate 5 overpass at Highway 44 as the Merle Haggard Memorial Overpass.
Money for the signs was privately raised by Q97 Radio DJs Billy and Patrick.
A dedication ceremony is scheduled for October 25. Members of Haggard's family have been invited to officially unveil the signs.
Haggard lived in Palo Cedro for several years before his death last year at 79. He was an American country singer, songwriter, guitarist and fiddler.
