REDDING, Calif. - Redding police are investigating a shooting after a man showed up at Shasta Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Officers got the call around 8:18 p.m. The victim, 34-year-old Brent Posada, claimed he had been shot about an hour earlier at the Hilltop Gardens Apartments on Hilltop Drive by a man who approached him brandishing a handgun.
Officers responded to both the hospital and the apartment complex. At the hospital, they interviewed the victim and the friend who brought him to the hospital.
Posada told police the suspect approached him with a small, black handgun while he was standing on the sidewalk at the complex.
When he tried to push the suspect's arm to the side the gun went off, striking him in the abdomen.
The suspect ran away from the scene in an unknown direction.
The suspect did not say anything to the victim and did not take anything from him.
A search of the area and the victim's apartment did not yield any evidence.
Police said Posada's injuries were not life threatening.
He was treated and released from the hospital.
The suspect is described as a black male wearing black shoes with silver striping, a black zip-up hoodie, and possibly unshaven.
