SHASTA LAKE, Calif. - According to the family, divers searching Shasta Lake were able to locate missing 12-year-old boy Auston Strole after rescue efforts began for the third time since his disappearance.
According to Strole's aunt, Roxane Maddox, Strole has been found. "We have our boy," said Maddox.
Strole was hit by the boat he was tubing behind on July 3 on Shasta Lake. The boy's life jacket was found and had damage consistent with being struck by a propeller, according to the sheriff's office.
A girl under the age of 16 was driving the boat when the accident happened and Robert Noftz, 50, was arrested for Boating Under the Influence because he was in command of the boat, according to the Shasta County Sheriff's Office.
Auston's father tells KRCR News Channel 7 that the family places no blame on Noftz, and that they believe the July incident was truly an accident.
The Shasta County Sheriff's Office and a volunteer group called Bruce's Legacy had searched for weeks with both sonar and underwater remote operated vehicles. Neither were successful.
