RPD Readjust Schedules; Saves Thousands

REDDING, Calif. - The Redding Police Department finished 2012 with extra money and they were able to do it while having even more officers on duty.

Chief Rob Paoletti said the savings are about $50,000 and it's all due to readjusting schedules.

About eight months ago, Chief Paoletti changed officers' schedules. Those who work during the week, work 10-hours days. Those on the weekends work 12-hour days.

This adjustment allows officers to do their monthly state-mandated training as part of their regular schedule, rather than doing it as over-time.

The Redding Police Department has 97 officers on the force and they are in the process of hiring the 98th.
