SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. - Shasta County lifted a water boil advisory Tuesday after completing water system improvements. The boil advisory had been in effect in the Shasta County Service Area 2 - Sugarloaf Water.
The county said the Sugarloaf subdivision and water system were created by a private developer. Recently, bacteria was found in the original well and the treatment system was not enough to address the contaminants.
The county used grants from the State Water Resources Control Board to bring in bottled water for people and to upgrade the well. Some of the upgrades include a protective structure over the well and alarms to ensure treatment equipment is working properly.
Anyone who has been receiving state-funded bottled water needs to be aware that the state will no longer pay for it because tap water is safe to drink. They will be contacted soon about how to return equipment and unused bottles.
