Police new details Monday regarding a Russian man found dead in a walnut orchard in Hamilton City.
The Glenn County Sheriff's Office is still waiting for the final word on how 21-year-old Marat Magdeev was killed.
Investigators said that Magdeev was connected to a drug operation in the Northstate. The type of drugs were not specified.
Mageev's body was discovered by a farmer in a walnut orchard east of Highway 45 near Hamilton City on May 24.
Investigators are starting to believe Mageev was killed somewhere else and the killers picked Glenn County to dump his body.
"This is a complicated case as the detectives delve further into it, and involving a lot of territories here and other acquaintances,” said Sheriff Larry Jones. “A lot of interviews have been made and we need to hold that information close to us right now so other people are not aware of it."
Mageev used to live in the New York City area, and he was born in Russia.
Glenn County detectives are checking leads in those areas and across the Northstate.
Jones said he doesn't believe the suspects are in this area anymore. Investigators are still working to see what lured Mageev to the Northstate. They expect the autopsy reports back soon.
