Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. co-founder releases autobiography
Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. co-founder Ken Grossman released an autobiography Monday that tells the story of how he turned his hobby of brewing beer into the sixth largest brewery in the United States.
"I was pushed into it by a friend of mine who's a brewer and he had written a couple of books," Grossman joking says. "In a weak moment I said, 'Yeah, I'll go ahead and write a book,' and finally it's done."
Grossman may be nonchalant about the two-year long project, but in reality he is excited about his new book, "Beyond the Pale: the Story of Sierra Nevada Brewing Co."
"I have some stories in there that will hopefully be fun and insightful to read," he says. "I did leave some of the stuff out of my youth. I was a pretty wild child and got in a bit of trouble. But there are some good stories and there's been a lot challenging times over the years."
And he says working through those challenges gives him insight into an industry that has gone through huge changes in the more than 30 years since he first joined the game.
"When I started there were only about 40 breweries in the whole country and today there are about 2,000," Grossman said. "...we lived through some really exciting times."
Whether a home brewer, an entrepreneur, or just interested in a story of success, Grossman's sage wisdom should be well worth the cover price.
"If you have the whole thing in front of you it's a daunting task," Grossman said. "Sometimes it seems too much to manage but as you sort of pick apart the challenges and you work one day at a time you can achieve your goals."
