On Friday, Dec. 6 KRCR News Channel 7, Northern California Ford Dealers and the Salvation Army stuffed a RABA and B-Line bus with new, unwrapped toys during the Stuff the Bus event.
Though the weather was chilly – snow in Redding and rain in Chico – the event generated an overwhelming amount of support from people who stopped by Crown Motors and Wittmeier Auto Center to donate a toy.
The Salvation Army estimates the community as a whole donated approximately 1900 toys to children in need in the Northstate. Diamond W. Western Wear, Grocery Outlet and the Chico Union School District combined donated approximately $1100 worth of holiday gifts including toys, coats and food.
The Stuff the Bus toy drive began in November, when the Salvation Army delivered holiday-themed barrels to various businesses and organizations throughout the Northstate. Community members donated toys at these collection sites over the past few weeks, and the Salvation Army picked up many of the barrels on the day of the event. This week the Salvation Army has continued to collect barrels at businesses who volunteered to keep their barrels out for an extra week.
