Suspect on AB 109 arrested for stealing vehicle and heroin posession after fleeing from police
A suspect out on post release community supervision (AB 109) was arrested after running from Redding police.
On Wednesday at around 11:00 a.m., Redding Police responded to a report of a suspicious occupied vehicle parked behind the Safeway Shopping Center on East Cypress Ave. A citizen reported that the occupant was possibly using narcotics.
Officer Hyatt arrived on scene and located the reported suspicious vehicle, a blue 1994 Ford Explorer. He checked the license plate and was advised that it was a reported stolen vehicle.
When he saw Officer Hyatt, the male subject in the car got out and took off on foot. Officer Hyatt recognized the subject as Blaine Stidham, 24, of Redding, who was wanted on numerous outstanding warrants.
Officer Hyatt attempted to detain Stidham, but he ran on foot towards Cypress Ave., ignoring Officer Hyatt’s commands to stop. Other officers arrived to assist, and Stidham was taken into custody after a brief struggle.
A small amount of heroin was found in the vehicle, along with some suspected stolen property. The recovered stolen vehicle was returned to the owner.
Stidham was booked at Shasta County Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance.
Stidham is currently on Post Release Community Supervision for a prior conviction of possessing a stolen vehicle.
