Teen accused of murder deemed not yet mentally competent enough to stand trial
A 17-year-old accused of murdering his father has been committed to a mental facility by the court.
Dreis Luera's defense attorney declared a doubt of competency back in early April, stating that she did not think Luera understood what was going on in the courtroom.
Luera will remain in custody until his 18th birthday next month before being transferred to Napa State Hospital.
The goal is to restore his mental competency to a point where he can stand trial for the murder of his father.
He is being tried as an adult.
Investigators said he admitted to the crime.
