First competitions start at 96th Red...

RED BLUFF, Calif. - The Red Bluff Round-Up began with slacks on Thursday.

The slack round is for the overflow contestants who do events such as calf roping, barrel racing and more. These events are all rodeo related but don't fit in the main nightly rodeo performance.

This is the 96th year of the Red Bluff Round-Up.

The rodeo offers entertainment shows, as well as competitions, with world ranked competitors.

Ty Erickson, a 26-year-old from Helena, Montana is ranked number one in the country in steer wrestling.

Erickson travels the country, competing, all year long. He won at the Red Bluff Round-Up two of the last three years.

He said jumping off a horse to wrestle a steer is all about the adrenaline.

"It's a really good adrenaline rush," Erikson said. "We are asking those horses to go as fast as they can run to try and throw down a farm animal. It's a lot of contact and it's a lot of fun. That's why I love it."

The rodeo officially begins at 7 p.m. on Friday.

You can sign up for other events such as the golf tournament, the pancake breakfast, and the Granger Smith concert at RedBluffRoundup.com
