Mother and Fiance Arrested 8 Months Following Suspicious Death of Toddler

RED BLUFF, Calif. - Two people have been arrested in Tehama County in connection with the death of a one-year-old boy.

David Di Dio was 13 months old when he died on September 26. At the time, investigators were calling it a suspicious death.

Now we know that an autopsy showed blunt force trauma to the toddlers abdomen. That caused internal injuries, which then led to his death.

Isabelle Rios and her fiance Daniel Llamas were arrested at a home on Friday in Red Bluff.

Llamas is not the father, although Rios does have another child with him.

The father, Chris Di Dio said on Monday that it was hard to imagine Rios and Llamas hurting his son.

"I'm not angry but nor am I happy," Di Dio said. "I'm just sad that it happened and how it happened. I was just hoping [the autopsy report] would say it was natural causes or something."

Di Dio did say he is glad that Rios and Llamas are being held responsible.

Investigators said the two of them brought David to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Red Bluff because he wasn't breathing.

Medical officials attempted to give him CPR, but it was too late.

An investigation was immediately launched. The case was turned over to the Tehama County District Attorney's office in November.

Warrants for Rios and Llamas arrest were arrested on Friday and they are being held on $550,000 bail.
