Four buildings including a house and three outbuildings were struck by a fire Sunday at approximately 5:30 p.m. at 3889 Rancho Road just off Airport Road.
Redding Fire Battalion Chief Steve Reilly believes the fire started in a house before spreading to two adjacent outbuildings.
Steady winds worked to push the fire across the street where it burned another outbuilding and vegetation.
Reilly said 13 engines, including all available Redding resources, CAL FIRE hand crews, dozers, and a full air attack worked to battle the blaze.
Resources from Anderson Fire, Bella Vista, Palo Cedro and other agencies were also on hand.
"They're filling dual rules and right now fatigue is starting to set in," Reilly said.
Around 7 p.m. Reilly said forward progress had been stopped but said crews would be out mopping up through the night.
The destroyed home is the same home where less than one year ago, Eric Ratledge was killed and Joshua McCormick was arrested for the murder.
McCormick was recently sentenced to life in prison.
Firefighters have not drawn any connection.
Regardless of how the blaze started with the windy conditions Reilly said the fire could've turned into a widespread disaster.
"Crews instantly made a very aggressive attack...we were able to stop the forward progress of the fire very quickly."
Right now there is no word as to how the fire started and there have been no reports of injuries.
