WILLOWS, Calif. -

The CHP wants to hear from witnesses to a collision involving a tow truck on Interstate 5.  The accident left a Red Bluff family with a badly damaged car, and minor injuries.  The tow truck driver drove away from the crash.

The collision happened around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in Glenn County.  The CHP said Justin Sorensen, 30 of Red Bluff, was northbound on Interstate 5 just south of the County Road 57 overpass south of Willows.  Sorensen's wife Bridget and their 5-year-old daughter were passengers in the 2007 Ford Fusion.

The Sorensen vehicle collided with a flat bed tow truck.  The Sorensens said they were in the fast lane passing the truck from behind, when the truck started to merge to the left, into the Fusion.  The truck came up onto the car, smashing the windshield and ripping a tear in the roof and along the passenger side of the vehicle. After the wreck the Sorensens stopped on the side of the road.

The truck driver did not stop and is being sought for hit and run.

The tow truck is believed to have suffered moderate damage to the left rear tire area.  Any information about the location and identity of the tow truck driver is asked to call Willows CHP at 934-5424 or Chico CHP at 879-1955.
