A vehicle was hit by a train Thursday near Corning after the driver of the car swerved to miss an animal and ended up stuck on the tracks.

The California Highway Patrol said they tried to warn Union Pacific that the vehicle was stuck on the tracks, but they were unable to get a message to the train operator in time.

The train was heading northbound near South Avenue and Rowles, east of Corning when it struck the vehicle.

The 18-year-old driver of the vehicle was not injured other than a few minor scrapes caused by his vehicle hitting the tracks after he swerved to miss the animal.
