The City of Redding is asking for your help finding out who vandalized eight trees in the Backyard Creek area off Springer Drive in Redding.
On Friday, the city responded to a call from a neighbor who said three kids had cut down some trees.
City of Redding’s Park Division Supervisor Geoff Diaz said anyone has access to that area which can make it harder to find the ones responsible for the damage.
A total of eight trees were cut down, five of them great pines, two live oaks and one blue oak. All of them native species, the largest one was close to 40 feet tall.
“As a department we work hard to preserve our trees and our green belts,” said Diaz. We’ve been tree city USA for 32 years so we promote tree planting and preservation and to have them vandalized is just a shame."
The city of Redding said they are also concerned that the fallen trees can be prone to fires.
If anyone has any information on who may have intentionally damaged the trees you are asked to contact Redding police.
