The TSA opened three Northern California enrollment centers today.
If you fly a lot you can register for faster screening at airport checkpoints. The checkpoints are made for speedier travel. Its called a TSA Pre-Check, were separate lines are set up and those who qualify don’t have to wait in the longer lines.
"You don't have to remove your shoes or your outer garment nor do you have to take your computer out of your bags,” said Rod Dinger, Redding Municipal Airport manager.
Bigger airports will benefit from this, saving the passengers time and stress.
Those who qualify are allowed to leave their liquids and gels in their carry-on bags.
The TSA began rolling out its enrollment centers last month, so far Northern California is slated for three of them.
Eventually the TSA plans to have those centers in more than 300 cities. To qualify for the service U.S citizens must be fingerprinted and provide some basic information.
The cost is $85 for five years of access.
Redding Municipal Airport will be offering modified pre-check screening.
"You would still stand in line with everybody else but when you got to the magnetometer you no longer have to remove your shoes or your outer garments," said Dinger.
