Redding Police said the suspect of a fatal hit and run turned himself in Saturday afternoon. The suspect is Steven Bates, 40 of Red Bluff.
According to police Bates called the police department around 9:30 a.m. to turn himself in.
A Redding Police Department Traffic Investigator contacted Bates and he was arrested for felony hit and run and vehicular manslaughter.
Police said they interviewed Bates and his vehicle and travel trailer were impounded as evidence.
After Bates was interviewed he was released pending further investigation.
Police would not elaborate on the specifics of the investigation.
The collision happened at 11:11 pm. Friday night. Officers responded to the report of an auto-pedestrian collision on Heather Lane, north of Hartnell Avenue.
Officers found a woman on the ground who had been struck by a 2002 gold Dodge Ram truck. The victim succumbed to her injuries as a result of being struck by the truck.
The truck left the scene of the collision traveling south on Heather Lane to Hartnell Avenue.
The pick-up was also towing a 1997 white Wilderness travel trailer.
The name of the victim is not being released at this time.
