CHICO, Calif. -

A female bicyclist was hit by a car in Chico Friday night. The accident closed a Central Chico street for several hours.

The driver, 21-year-old Amanda McClintock, was arrested for driving on a suspended license.

East 1st Avenue was closed between the Esplanade and Laburnum from 6:30 p.m. until about midnight.

Police said the collision happened around 6:30 p.m. Friday when McClintock's car struck a woman riding her bike near East 1st Avenue and Oleander Avenue.  

Chico Police Lt. Linda Dye told KRCR News Channel 7 the victim is a young woman, possibly in her early 20’s, who lives in the area.  Her name was not released, but she suffered major head injuries.  She was not wearing a helmet.

The scene is two blocks from Chico High School. 

Due to the extent of the injuries suffered by the victim, the Police Department called out their Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T). E. 1st Ave was closed between the Esplanade and Laburnum for about 5 hours.
