REDDING, Calif. -

Leadership Redding held its annual social Thursday night and presented its Alumnus of the Year Award.

The recipient was Eddie McAllister of Redding.

McAllister is a community organizer, a Vietnam veteran, and he works at Health and Human Services.

The proud father of two and husband is also very active in the community, donating his time to dozens of organizations.

Connie Grinols of the Steering Committee presented McAllister with the award at the Riverview County Club in front of hundreds of guests.

"Eddie encompassed everything that Leadership Redding is all about. Is going out there, not thinking about yourself, and being part of the community and giving back to the community," said Grinols.

Leadership Redding's mission statement is, "To create a well-informed citizenry dedicated to improving the quality of life in the Greater Redding Region through civic and community involvement," according to the group's website.

McAllister told KRCR News Channel 7 his work in the community follows that of a late civil rights hero that he looked up to his whole life.

"Dr. {Martin Luther} King quoted, said, life's most urgent and persistent question is what are you doing for others? And this is something I picked up on," said McAllister.
