Veterans Home gets grand opening with military fly-over
A big celebration was held Friday morning in Redding, complete with a military fly-over, and lots of dignitaries.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Veterans Home in Redding marked the culmination of a long-anticipated project. The first four residents moved in Tuesday at the brand new home on Knighton Road.
The public was invited to the ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday at 10 a.m.. The ceremony included a long list of dignitaries, including the Secretary of Veterans Affairs Peter Gravett, State Senator Jim Nielsen,and retired Senator Maurice Johannessen.
There were many vintage style military vehicles on display, helicopters, a ceremonial band and a 2-plane military flyover.
The celebration continues Saturday with a community open house. The Asphalt Cowboys will serve a BBQ lunch, and there will be music. Visitors can tour the 160-bed facility.
