CHICO, Calif. -

A wild chase through the streets of Chico ended with two people arrested at Enloe Hospital.  Police said Tou Thao, 33 of Chico, was driving a stolen vehicle that hit a patrol car during the pursuit.  A passenger in the car Amber Craven, 24, was arrested inside Enloe Hospital after officers said she tried to hide in a restroom.

According to a news release from Chico Police, the incident started at 8 a.m. Tuesday when a woman reported she spotted her stolen 1985 Honda sedan in an apartment parking lot at 1731 Esplanade.  The caller had reported the vehicle stolen Monday afternoon.

Officers set up a perimeter, hoping to keep the vehicle from leaving.  The suspect vehicle began to leave the area, traveling on the side drive along Esplanade.  Officer Dave Bailey pulled forward onto the side drive in an attempt to block the vehicle from leaving.  

Police said Thao, put the stolen vehicle in reverse and sped backwards toward the apartment complex.  The car ran over surveying equipment near the street and continued driving in reverse through the complex.  

The car sideswiped a patrol car that was trying to block the alley.  The suspect vehicle continued south in the alley, still driving in reverse, crossing W. 7th Ave.  The suspect reportedly tried to swing the vehicle around, but collided with a curb on the north side of Enloe Hospital and the car became disabled.  

Thao, and the female passenger, Amber Craven fled on foot, running west along the south sidewalk of W. 6th Avenue.  Thao was tackled by Detective Sergeant Madden near the west side of Enloe Hospital.  Thao struggled with officers who used three baton strikes to take him into custody.

Craven continued running to the front of the hospital.  She was chased inside the  building and was caught as she tried to hide in a restroom.    During a search of the stolen vehicle, Officers found burglary tools and stolen property.

Thao was wanted for violations of his Post Release Community Supervision program as well as for leading officers on a pursuit on Sunday morning.  

The new charges against Thao include, criminal conspiracy, resisting arrest, stolen vehicle, evading an officer, hit and run, possession of burglary tools and possession of stolen property.

Craven faces charges of criminal conspiracy resisting arrest, receiving stolen vehicle, and possession of burglary tools.
