REDDING, Calif. -

World cultures and local organizations came together Saturday for the 19th Annual Multicultural Celebration at the Mount Shasta Mall in Redding.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office hosts the event each year.

Booths and information were available from local cultural groups and fraternal orders. Participants included Swedish, German, Italian, Native American, Sikh and Muslim representatives.

Eva Varga with the Sons of Norway said many people don't even know groups like hers exist in the area and that's part of what the multicultural fair is for.

"It's an opportunity to let the community know that we're here in the Northstate and that we have a presence," said Varga. "But we enjoy taking part in the multicultural fair because we get to see the other cultures that we have here. Our hope is that we can engage the community and get them involved in different fraternal organizations."

Local organizations such as Marinello School of Beauty, Institute of Technology, Vietnam Vets 357 and the NAACP were also on hand passing out information and encouraging people to get involved.

Japanese, Hawaiian, folk and belly dancers also took the stage in the mall's center court. German singers also entertained the good sized crowd.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office also allowed parents to have their kids fingerprinted in order to help in possible future missing persons situations.
