Manhunt for inmate who walked away from prisoner work crew

Authorities are asking Northstate residents to be on the lookout for an inmate who walked away from a prison work crew in Mt. Shasta City.

Lepaul Gardner, 27, is a minimum-security inmate at Intermountain Conservation Camp near Bieber.

He was assigned to an inmate firefighting crew.  The crew was working a grade project near Mt. Shasta City on Wednesday.  Around 4:30 p.m., the staff noticed he was missing from the work crew.

Gardner is a white male, 5'6" tall, 130-155 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair.

He was committed to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation on May 9, 2013, from Los Angeles County for Assault with a Firearm. He was scheduled to be released from CDCR custody on July 15, 2017.

CDCR, Cal-Fire Law Enforcement personnel, along with local law enforcement agencies, and the California Highway Patrol were notified and are assisting in the search for Gardner.

Gardner was last seen wearing orange CDCR state-issued clothing. Anyone seeing Gardner should contact 9-1-1 or law enforcement authorities immediately.
