REDDING, Calif. - A motorcyclist is in critical condition after colliding with a minivan in Redding Sunday night.
The crash happened at 7:40 p.m. Sunday at Oasis Road and Woggon Lane in Redding.
According to CHP, the motorcyclist, 57-year-old Benard Pennock of Redding, was traveling eastbound on Oasis Road.
The driver of the minivan, 53-year-old Yolanda Lopez of Redding, was traveling northbound on Woggon Lane in a Chrysler minivan and stopped at the intersection. According to the CHP Lopez said she did not see Pennock's motorcycle approaching from her left.
Lopez entered Oasis Road, directly into the path of Pennock's motorcycle. The cycle broadsided the minivan.
CHP Officer Mark Redding said accidents like this happen all the time and can be avoided.
"Motorcyclists need to be aware that they're a little bit more difficult to see being smaller in size," said Ofc. Redding. "They have a headlight requirement, a headlight should always be on motorists need to be aware that motorcyclists are out there harder to see . They need to make sure that they are paying attention and looking."
As of Monday evening, Pennock was listed in critical condition at Mercy Medical Center.
