(CNN) -- Prior to one carjacking in a spree that left three people dead, Ali Syed approached a driver at a gas station and told him, "I don't want to hurt you; I killed somebody; today's my last day; give me your keys," Chief Scott Jordan of the Tustin Police Department in California told reporters. "The victim gave him his keys."
