Oregon Street closed by downtown Redding office fire

REDDING, Calif. - Redding Fire Department responded will all available units after a fire broke out at a law office on Oregon Street in downtown Redding.

The fire was reported around 11 a.m. at 1650 Oregon Street.  Heavy smoke poured from the second floor of the building.

Oregon Street was closed between Yuba Street and Placer Street.

Fire crews at the scene said a new law firm had recently moved into the office space.

CAL FIRE crews were also called to the scene. 

Firefighters said the cause is under investigation, but it appears it could be an electrical fire.  The business was under renovation.

Redding Fire officials confirmed there were people inside the building on the second floor when the fire broke out.

The three people escaped uninjured.  They tried to put out flames out with a fire extinguisher but it grew too big to handle.
