Oroville Chinese Temple celebrates Chinese New Year

OROVILLE, Calif. - Friday marked the first day of the Chinese New Year. To honor the occasion the Oroville Chinese Temple held an open house.  There were tours, but many people gave themselves self-guided tours looking at the beautiful Chinese art and history.
The Chinese New Year is a time for renewal.  "They believe that when New Year's comes you should have things going correctly," said Jan Clay, a docent at the temple. "You pay your bills, make amends and you take care of it so the old stays with the old and you start over with good luck for the future."
This is the Year of the Horse.  Under Chinese tradition, people born under the horse are considered energetic, bright, warm-hearted, intelligent and able.
