Pair rescued from Sacramento River in Redding

REDDING, Calif. - Two young females were successfully rescued from the Sacramento River near the South Bonnyview boat launch Sunday, exactly one week to the day after a man died while canoeing on the same stretch of water.

The pair was just south of the boat launch around 2:30 pm. when the raft they were riding in got caught in a snag and became stuck.

A Shasta County Sheriff's Office boat was sent out to recover them, returning them safe to the boat launch within an hour.

No one was injured.

Redding firefighters, police and EMTs all responded as a precaution.

This incident happened about a mile downstream from where 33-year-old Kao Saefong drowned after the canoe he was riding in flipped. His companion was rescued by a drift boat, but Saefong's body wasn't recovered from the water until Tuesday.
