Pedestrian hit by pickup truck on busy Chico street

CHICO, Calif. - A pedestrian was taken to the hospital Monday morning after he was hit by an pickup in South Chico.

The accident happened on Park Avenue at 18th Street around 7:50 a.m. Monday.  Chico Police said a transient ran out into traffic and was struck by a Ford Ranger.

Police originally reported the man as being in his 50s but they have now said he is 83-years-old.

The driver of the Ranger told KRCR News Channel 7 he was switching lanes and the sun was in his eyes. 

The transient suffered significant hip and leg injuries.  One lane between 17th and 18th Streets was shut down while crews cleared the scene.
