Obama ad's Planned Parenthood focus

President Barack Obama's second campaign advertisement released Friday criticizes Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney for the candidate's past comments against Planned Parenthood.

"I'll cut off funding to Planned Parenthood," Romney can be seen saying in the spot. Then, "Planned Parenthood. We're going to get rid of that."

The clips are from a February campaign appearance and a March interview, when the candidate was running for his party's nomination.

The female narrator in the ad says that "women need to know the real Mitt Romney" and makes no mention of President Barack Obama. Then the president appears onscreen and approves the ad.

The family planning organization itself has criticized Romney in a series of recent mail pieces, including one sent to women in Virginia with a testimonial about a woman's "deeply personal" and non-political decision to have an abortion. It highlights Romney's support for ending federal funding for Planned Parenthood and for overturning Roe v. Wade.

Polls have generally shown a gender gap between Romney and Obama, with Obama performing stronger among women.

Earlier on Friday afternoon, Obama's campaign released a spot hitting Romney over his taxes.

The latest spot, titled "Decision," will run in the battleground states of Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, Ohio, and Virginia, according to the Obama campaign.
