RED BLUFF,Calif. - A Red Bluff High School teacher has been arrested on charges he sent inappropriate text messages to a 17-year-old female student.
Kenneth Wayne Binder, 42, teaches auto shop at the school.
According to police, the school's resource officer, Aaron Murray, was first contacted at around 1:00 p.m. on Monday afternoon by the assistant principal, after she received information that a teacher was having an inappropriate relationship with a minor student.
"Where it crosses the line is when the conversation turns into a sexual nature," said Sgt. Kevin Busekist. "The investigation is still ongoing, we have two investigators working on the case, the school resource officer is finishing up his investigation."
According to a news release Officer Murray, along with two detectives, began investigating immediately and discovered Binder was sending inappropriate text messages to the student.
At 4:12 p.m. on the same day, Officer Murray arrested Binder on-campus with a charge of sending harmful matter to a minor. He is being held on $15,000 bail.
"I feel bad that this is even happening," said Red Bluff High School's Interim Superintendent Joe Harrop. "But I feel really good that the school was very responsible in terms of dealing with it right away and making sure that the allegations where investigated thoroughly, so the most important thing is the safety of the kids."
