Shoppers & Retailers Gear Up For Grey Thursday

REDDING, Calif. - Black Friday is starting a few hours earlier this year. It's being called "Grey Thursday."

Retailers are opening as early as 8:00 p.m. this Thanksgiving night to compete for your hard earned dollars.

The National Retail Federation estimates 147 million shoppers are expected to hit stores this holiday weekend. 71 million are expected to shop, and the other 76 million will wait to see what retailers have to offer.

Holiday sales can make up as much as 20 to 40 percent of yearly sales for retailers so many are trying to push the bigger items off their shelves with discounts. Things like tablets, laptops, and flat screen TVs will be significantly discounted.

One of the big ticket items is a 50-inch LED flat screen TV. KRCR News Channel 7 asked Aaron Prader, who's the Redding Best Buy General Manager, how much the TV will cost. Prader said, "You'll have to check the add, it's online....they're gonna be ticketed items, you gotta be first come, first serve and the prices may change, you never know."

Folks have already set up tents outside the Redding Best Buy to get those special discounts. Prader says that Dutch Bros will set up shop outside the store this Thursday night to accommodate those waiting out in the cold.

Walmart opens this Thursday at 8:00 p.m.

Target opens at 9:00 p.m.
