Shots Fired in Attempted Robbery Near Redding Gas Station

REDDING, Calif. - Police responded to a north Redding gas station Friday afternoon, after reports of a possible shooting.

It happened at 3:21pm at the AM/PM located at 2402 Cascade Boulevard.

Redding police say a shooting did occur, but no one was injured. They say Steven Jones, 52, and a passenger were in a vehicle in the parking lot of the gas station, when a white Honda Civic occupied by two men and a woman pulled up next to them.

That's when investigators believe the driver of the Civic pointed a handgun at Jones and demanded money. They say Jones immediately panicked and drove out of the parking lot, pulling onto northbound Cascade Boulevard, when the Civic followed, and the driver fired a shot at him.

A Redding police officer searching the area located the Civic parked on Wintu Drive. Joshua Miller, 28, of Redding was located at the vehicle, and identified as the driver and shooter by the victim and surveillance video from the AM/PM. The other two people allegedly in the vehicle at the time of the shooting were not located.

Miller was arrested and booked at the Shasta County Jail for attempted robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, terrorist threats, and ex-felon in possession of a firearm.

Anyone with information about the location of the other two people is asked to call Redding police.
