COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Kenny Guiton replaced injured quarterback Braxton Miller early in the game and threw for two touchdowns in addition to running for another as Ohio State defeated San Diego State, 42-7, on Saturday.
Guiton completed 19-of-28 passes for 152 yards and added 85 yards on nine carries to help the Buckeyes (2-0) to a 35-0 halftime lead. He also had a pass intercepted by Damontae Kazee in the second quarter.
His favorite targets were Devin Smith, who had seven catches for 46 yards, and Corey Brown, whose 24-yard scoring reception made the score 42-0 with 4:34 left in the third quarter.
Brown had six catches, including two touchdowns, for 73 yards.
San Diego State (0-2) got on the board when backup quarterback Quinn Kaehler threw a two-yard touchdown pass to Chad Young with 1:41 remaining in the third quarter.
The Aztecs missed a chance to score on the last play of the first half when cornerback Doran Grant broke up a three-yard pass by Kaehler that was intended for Ezell Ruffin.
The Aztecs, after running off 99 plays, their most since 1991, in an opening 40-19 loss to Eastern Illinois, had 35 plays for 99 yards by halftime, while the Buckeyes gained 309 yards on 37 plays.
San Diego State gained yards 283 yards in the game, but only 48 on the ground on 67 plays. Kaehler completed 22-of-36 passes for 217 yards, with the touchdown and an interception.
