Former TCU defensive end Devonte Fields, "separated" from the university after a misdemeanor assault charge, transferred to Stephen F. Austin and will be eligible to play for the FCS school this season.
Fields, the 2012 Big 12 defensive player of the year as a freshman, was barred from TCU's campus while his case was under investigation. He allegedly threatened his former girlfriend and punched her.
Fields, who missed most of last season because of injuries and suspensions, announced Wednesday night on Twitter that he was transferring and Stephen F. Austin officials confirmed the move Thursday.
Former Houston defensive back Tarrin Mtchell will join Daniels at Stephen F. Austin.
"I'm excited to be able to work with both of these young men as they both bring a great deal of talent to our defensive unit," Lumberjacks coach Clint Conque said. "They both bring a wealth of experience and knowledge at their respective positions and will provide some quality depth."
