NEW YORK -- Washington took the lead with a pair of sacrifice flies in the seventh inning and went on defeat New York in a sloppy game.
The Nationals trailed 1-0 entering the seventh when Adam LaRoche hit a leadoff double. He went to third on a single by Ian Desmond, who advanced to second on an errant throw back to the infield by center fielder Juan Lagares.
LaRoche scored on a sacrifice fly by Bryce Harper. Two batters later, Kevin Frandsen -- whose error in the fourth inning resulted in the Mets' only run -- broke the deadlock with another sacrifice fly. Asdrubal Cabrera provided a vital insurance run with a solo homer in the eighth.
Tigers 8, Pirates 4
DETROIT -- Nick Castellanos blasted a go-ahead home run and an RBI triple, and Victor Martinez drove in three runs as Detroit snapped a four-game losing streak.
Alex Avila added a solo home run for Detroit. Blaine Hardy (2-1) pitched two innings of scoreless relief for the victory.
Castellanos smashed his ninth homer into the left-centerfield stands with one out in the sixth to give the Tigers a 5-4 lead. Pittsburgh's Russell Martin had an RBI double for his 1,000th career hit, which also extended his hitting streak to 11 games.
