Football were flying through the air Friday night when New England and Philadelphia combined for eight touchdown passes in the Patriots' 42-35 preseason victory in Foxborough, Mass.

Starters Tom Brady of New England and Nick Foles of Philadelphia threw one scoring pass each for their respective teams in limited action.

Mark Sanchez, who is competing with Matt Barkley for the Eagles' backup quarterback job, connected on 11 of 12 passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. Barkley finished 9 of 12 for 132 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Patriots rookie quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo had two touchdown passes, completing 6 of 12 passes for 72 yards, and Ryan Mallett was 7 of 11 for 92 yards and one touchdown.

Brady was on target after throwing a pick-six on the Patriots' opening drive. Eagles cornerback Cary Williams returned the interception 77 yards for a touchdown and then left the game with a hamstring injury.

Eagles wide receiver Jordan Matthews caught nine passes for 104 yards and running back Henry Josey rushed for 65 yards on eight carries. Running back Jonas Gray led the Patriots on the ground with 98 yards on 12 carries.

Saints 31, Titans 24

NEW ORLEANS -- With Drew Brees sitting this one out, Ryan Griffin used the opportunity to throw for 179 yards and two touchdowns and Luke McCown also passed for two touchdowns and 117 yards to lead New Orleans past Tennessee in preseason play.

Titans rookie quarterback Zach Mettenberger took advantage of his extended playing time to complete 20 of 25 passes for 270 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Tennessee starter Jake Locker was 8 of 10 for 75 yards and a touchdown.

Saints wide receiver Joseph Morgan was the recipient of three passes for 108 yards and tight end Jimmy Graham had five catches for 48 yards and two touchdowns. Graham was flagged by the officials after he dunked the ball over the goal post on the first score.
