Squirrel causes power outage for hundreds of customers

CITY OF SHASTA LAKE, Calif. - A squirrel caused a power outage in Shasta County Tuesday morning that affected nearly 700 customers.

The power went out at 6:56 a.m. in the City of Shasta Lake.  According to city officials, 698 customers lost power.  It took about 30 minutes to restore service.

Several residents reported hearing a loud explosion before the power went out.  A squirrel came into contact with power lines, interrupting electric service.
