COTTONWOOD, Calif. - A stabbing suspect surrendered to law enforcement after a two-hour hour standoff in Cottonwood. He faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon after an alleged attack on a couple he was staying with.
The suspect surrendered around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday after he barricaded himself inside a trailer.
The incident started around 7:30 p.m. at the Alamo Motel & RV Park at 3818 Main Street in Cottonwood.
The Shasta County Sheriff's Office said the victims are Charles and Donna Atmore.
The manager of the trailer park said the husband and wife had lived in the park for about a year, and the suspect had been staying with them for a couple days.
Neighbors said they heard an argument, and saw the suspect running around yelling while apparently naked.
The Atmores came to the door of the manager saying they'd been attacked. The manager said it appeared Charles Atmore had been stabbed in the neck or head. Donna Atmore had been hit in the face. Both showed visible injuries. They were taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment.
The manager called 911 and law enforcement officers surrounded the trailer.
A witness said the suspect eventually walked out of the trailer in a towel and was taken into custody by Shasta County Sheriff's deputies.
The Shasta County Sheriff's Office, Tehama County Sheriff's Office, and CHP responded.
The name of the suspect was not immediately released. The Shasta County Sheriff's Office said they were working to confirm the correct name of the suspect.
