RED BLUFF, Calif. - The Tehama County Library has a new addition for children - the added story time boxes. These boxes allow anyone with kids to check out a box for a week and have story time outside the library.
Acting librarian Sally Ainsworth said it all started as just an idea.
Ainsworth said for a variety of reasons children miss out on the library story time sessions, and she wanted to find a solution.
Ainsworth pitched her idea to the California State Library's "Pitch An Idea" grant program.
At first, Ainsworth just asked for $5,000 but the program liked the idea so much they gave her a $16,000 grant.
"At first we thought of a bag with books and then we thought, 'oh what about boxes'? Decorated boxes that we can put books and puppets and different things and it just evolved from that," said Ainsworth.
The Tehama County Library was able to upgrade its children's section and create a parenting and early childhood development resource section in addition to creating 30 story time boxes.
