Three car collision leaves one dead, closes Highway 273

REDDING, Calif. - A three vehicle collision left a woman dead and closed Highway 273 at Westwood Avenue Tuesday morning.

Police got the call just before 9:30 a.m.

When they arrived, they discovered two cars and an SUV still in the intersection.

Investigators said a 1996 For Explorer driven by 29-year-old Darren Horn of Cottonwood ran a red light. Police said he proceeded through the intersection southbound and collided with a Hyundai.

The driver of the Hyundai, Sandra Van Larson, 69, of Redding died as a result of the collision.

Horn was transported to the hospital and police believe he might have been using prescription medication prior to the crash.

The crash is still under investigation and no arrests have been made.

Highway 273 North was closed for about six hours and reopened around 2:30 p.m.
