Transient jumps in car while driver is stopped at a red light

REDDING, Calif. - A young teenage couple in Redding had a transient jump in their car while they were waiting for the light to turn green.

The incident happened off of Shasta St. in Redding. The 17-year-olds, who asked to remain anonymous, said a woman opened the door to the car's backseat and sat down.

"My boyfriend was just like, 'Lock your door! Lock the door!' And I was looking around and was like there's nothing wrong," said the teenage girl.

The girl said when she looked back at her left-hand mirror, she saw what appeared to be a transient woman reaching for the door handle. The girl said the woman then entered the vehicle and made herself at home in the backseat.

"She looked at me and said, 'How you doing?' and I started crying and I was screaming and I was asking her to get out of my car," said the teenage driver.

That was when the teenager ran out to the middle of the street toward a nearby Redding police car, yelling for help.

According to the girl, that is when Redding police detained the woman.

KRCR News Channel 7 reached out to the Redding Police Department to see what happened with the woman.

Officials at the department said they did not yet have a report on file so they could not provide any additional information.
