REDDING, Calif. - A second-alarm vegetation fire fueled by hot and dry conditions quickly grew to five acres in north Redding Sunday evening before crews were able to get a handle on it.
The blaze was reported around 5:20 p.m. in dry grass and brush between North Market Street and Hilltop Drive.
Flames scorched the top of a hill to the east of Miracle Mile but was held in check by crews from the Redding Fire Department and CAL FIRE.
Forward progress was reportedly stopped a little after 6:00 p.m.
There were no reports of structures being threatened and a cause of the fire has yet to be released.
Firefighters are expected to be on scene for hours mopping up.
