Update: CHP Officer Shoots Suspect During Traffic Stop

DOUGLAS CITY, Calif. - The CHP has revealed new details about an officer-involved shooting in Trinity County.

The incident happened during a traffic stop along Highway 299 in Douglas City at 8:20 p.m.

The CHP said an officer made a traffic stop on a 2013 Kia for speeding.

The car pulled over near the Indian Creek Lodge on Highway 299 east of Douglas City. 

The CHP said in a news release, during the traffic stop the officer was assaulted by the driver Sean Karjala, 42 of Redding.

Karjala was shot more than once and transported to Mercy Medical Center.  KRCR News Channel 7 called the hospital Monday morning but the nursing supervisors said they had no information on a patient with that name.

The officer was not injured.  The name of the officer was not released.

The incident is being investigated by the CHP, Trinity County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Justice.
